| An open letter to the Pope |

| To the Pope ( Karol Wojtyla ) Recently you made some moral accusations against America, and charged your bishops with spreading moral doctrine amongst the congregation of Roman Catholic worshippers. While nobody is really doubting the moral decline of America, the Roman Catholic Church is not in a moral position to pass judgment upon America. For instance, in your speech, you were quoted as saying, "Rights are at times reduced to self-centered demands: the growth of prostitution and pornography in the name of adult choice, the acceptance of abortion in the name of women's rights, the approval of same sex unions in the name of homosexual rights," First, more then half of all Americans are against abortion, yet sadly some statistics indicate that Roman Catholic women will have abortions at a higher rate then do Protestant women. Secondly, prostitution is illegal, and most Americans feel pornography has no place here in America. Unfortunately, our country was founded on a Constitution that placed human rights above the law of God, specifically because the United States Constitution carefully omitted a declaration of faith in God and thereby our obedience to God, and instead declared freedom of choice. I doubt seriously that the framers of the Constitution could have ever foreseen the abuse that today's judges apply when determining the intent of our laws. The disciples of Christ in America, those who obey God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, are not in need of a man who teaches doctrine that is contrary to God, passing judgment on us. Is it better for a man and woman to divorce, or for a single person to lust after pornography? The Roman Catholic Church marries a couple and professes that no man shall separate what God has joined, notwithstanding the same priest can submit the paper work for the marriage to be annulled, and then tell the couple they can freely remarry. Meanwhile that priest will rightfully tell a single person not to lust after flesh or material things. Do you see the immorality with that? In fact, it would be more beneficial for you, and for the Roman Catholics who follow your teachings, to repent of your ways and take up only the teachings of Christ, and not the doctrine of men. From a luxurious castle in Italy, robed in garments of wealth and prestige, with hoards of services that even middle class Americans can not afford, you speak of morality and an America full of self-centered demands. I don't know if I should laugh at you or cry for you. While the Roman Catholic Church still suffers from immoral behavior, and worse, you cast a veil of judgment upon us. I don't think many people will doubt your assessment of a rather large populous of America, but you are not the guy capable of making spiritual assessments. Until you, and the Roman Catholic Church shed yourself of controversial Christian teachings, you just can not be seen as true followers of Christ. For instance, the Roman Catholic Church still teaches that someone needs to be absolved of sins by a priest; no going direct to God is allowed despite the fact that this is contrary to what the Bible teaches. Is the Bible in error when we read from Colossians: In whom we have redemption through his blood, [even] the forgiveness of sins:(Col 1:14) Jesus taught that we are to fear no man, but the one in heaven who when we die can cast us into an eternal lake of fire. Your own education taught you that Jesus was in part persecuted because He equated Himself with God, and called Himself the Son of God. The Jews labeled Him a blasphemer. The entire Bible only once uses the term Holy Father and it most definitely refers to God. So why is it that you allow yourself to be called the Holy Father as though you were anything other then a man, one who is supposed to serve God? And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we [are]. (Joh 17:11) From the Vatican web site: THE HOLY FATHER The Roman Pontiff, as the successor of Peter, is the perpetual and visible principle and foundation of unity of both the bishops and of the faithful. LUMEN GENTIUM, 23
Please do not speak as though you are my foundation, Christ Jesus is the rock and savior. You are no more able to judge America then I am able to judge you, yet I do refute what you say, and the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church. The teachings are dangerous and quite possibly create stumbling blocks for brothers and sisters who adhere to the tenets of Rome, and not the teachings of Jesus. |
